I begin most of my paintings with color, shapes, and lines - continuing with layer after layer of paint until things seem to take shape. Many times I dig into the paint with tools; actually scraping off and removing some of the layers to reveal the colors under the surface. What is often surprising to me is that what I've uncovered depicts something from my subconscious. Most of the paintings have a story that is easier for me to tell with pictures.
